IRCC invites 3,200 candidates in a new Express Entry draw focusing on French skills

Canada's immigration authority, IRCC, has launched its latest round of invitations in the Express Entry system, focusing on candidates proficient in French. A total of 3,200 invitations were issued in this category-based draw, with applicants needing a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 420 to qualify.

This draw comes shortly after three previous draws earlier this month. On July 2, 920 candidates were invited through a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw, requiring a higher CRS score of 739. Following that, on July 4, 1,800 candidates in trade occupations received invitations, and on July 5, 3,750 invitations were issued to healthcare occupation candidates.

Express Entry draws have been quite active this year, with IRCC typically conducting draws every second week. April saw the most draws so far this year, with February also notable for its frequency.

French proficiency draws are anticipated to make up a significant portion of category-based selections this year, comprising about 30% of invitations issued. Since the beginning of the year, IRCC has already issued 15,600 invitations in this category.

Express Entry is Canada's streamlined system for managing applications under three key economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). Launched in 2015, it aims to attract skilled immigrants who can effectively integrate into Canada's workforce.

The category-based selection draws were introduced in 2023 to target specific labor market needs more precisely. These categories cover a range of sectors from healthcare and STEM professions to trades, transportation, agriculture, and French language proficiency.

These efforts underscore Canada's commitment to selecting candidates with the best potential to contribute to its economy and society. As the year progresses, more draws are expected, each playing a crucial role in shaping Canada's immigration landscape.
