Canada to Introduce More Direct Flights from India

Canada is set to increase the number of direct flights from India.

Trudeau Announces Increased Flights from India to Canada

Canada's Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, revealed plans to enhance flight connectivity between India and Canada. He emphasized the importance of enabling Canadians to visit their loved ones in India more frequently. This initiative follows an open skies agreement signed by the two nations in November 2022, facilitating unlimited flights between them. Previously, there were 35 flights per week between Canada and India.

Presently, Air India operates 10 flights per week from Delhi to Toronto and 7 flights to Vancouver. Additionally, there have been calls, notably from Pierre Poilievre, leader of Canada's Official Opposition, for a direct flight route to Amritsar.

Moreover, Trudeau commemorated Vaisakhi, also known as Khalsa Day, marking the Sikh New Year. Thousands gathered in Toronto for the celebration, organized by the Ontario Sikhs and Gurdwaras Council (OSGC). Trudeau lauded the significant contributions of Sikh Canadians across various fields, emphasizing the collaborative effort to build a better future for all.

Trudeau's announcement reflects a broader effort to strengthen cultural ties and facilitate travel between Canada and India.
