Alberta Invites 81 Healthcare Workers for Immigration in April

Alberta invited 81 healthcare workers through three immigration rounds held in early April 2025.

Alberta held three immigration draws in the first two weeks of April. These draws focused on healthcare workers. A total of 81 people received Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residency. Alberta used different immigration streams to invite qualified professionals.

April 1 Draw: Dedicated Health Care Pathway (Express Entry)

The first draw took place on April 1, 2025. It was through the Dedicated Health Care Pathway linked to Express Entry. Alberta invited 34 healthcare workers. Candidates needed at least 60 points to get selected.

April 4 Draw: Alberta Express Entry – Priority Sectors

The second draw was held on April 4, 2025. It focused on healthcare jobs listed under priority sectors. Alberta invited 19 workers through the Alberta Express Entry stream. This time, the minimum score needed was 71.

April 8 Draw: Dedicated Health Care Pathway (Non-Express Entry)

The third draw happened on April 8, 2025. It was under the non-Express Entry Dedicated Health Care Pathway. In this round, Alberta selected 28 candidates. The minimum score required was 53.

All three draws targeted workers in healthcare. These included nurses, doctors, therapists, and other medical professionals.

Who Can Apply?

To apply through the non-Express Entry pathway, candidates must:

  • Have a job offer from an Alberta healthcare employer.
  • Work in a listed healthcare job.
  • Score at least Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 in each skill.
  • Show proof they meet the requirements set by Alberta’s regulatory bodies.
  • Have a valid work permit or legal status in Canada during the process.

Special notes:

  • Licensed Practical Nurses must share proof of how they met language requirements.
  • Clinical Social Workers need to provide results of a language exam.

Regulatory bodies vary by profession. For example, doctors must be approved by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Nurses go through the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta.

Applying Through Express Entry

Those using the Express Entry version of the stream must:

  • Qualify for Express Entry.
  • Have a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 300.
  • Show their primary job in the Express Entry profile matches a healthcare occupation listed by Alberta.
  • Have a job offer in Alberta in the healthcare field.

For candidates in the Priority Sector (Health Care) draw, a valid job offer from a healthcare employer is necessary. The job must match one of Alberta’s eligible healthcare roles.

Alberta’s program allows both Express Entry and non-Express Entry applications. Candidates should apply under the stream that fits their profile best. Alberta continues to focus on healthcare jobs due to ongoing shortages in the province.
