Canada has introduced two pilot initiatives to simplify the process of obtaining permanent residency for caregivers, with plans to grant PR to over 15,000 caregivers through the 2024-2026 Immigration Levels Plan.
Eligible applicants must meet certain criteria, including achieving at least level four on the Canadian Language Benchmarks, holding a Canadian High School Diploma or its equivalent, having recent and relevant work experience, and securing a full-time home care position offer.
These programs aim to facilitate the integration of international caregivers into the Canadian workforce and address the evolving home care needs of the country's diverse population. Minister Marc Miller highlighted the vital role caregivers play in supporting Canadian families and stressed the importance of recognizing their contributions.
Minister Rechie Valdez emphasized the need to acknowledge and repay the dedication of caregivers who have cared for families in Canada for generations. As part of these initiatives, eligible caregivers will also have the opportunity to work for organizations providing temporary or part-time care for individuals in need. These pilot programs represent a significant advancement in Canada's efforts to enhance support for caregivers and ensure families receive the quality care they deserve.
