Canada Workers Benefit Payments to Increase in July 2025

Low-income workers in Canada will get more financial support as the Canada Workers Benefit (CWB) increases in July 2025.

Good news for low-income workers in Canada! The government is increasing the Canada Workers Benefit (CWB) payments starting July 12, 2025. This update will help individuals and families with everyday expenses. Payments will be issued in three installments throughout the year.

What Is the Canada Workers Benefit?

The CWB is a refundable tax credit designed to assist low-income workers. It includes:

  • Basic Amount – Available to eligible individuals and families.
  • Disability Supplement – Additional support for qualifying individuals.

Starting in 2025, eligible recipients will receive 50% of their CWB entitlement in advance, split into three quarterly payments. If you received CWB payments in 2024, you will automatically qualify for 2025.

How Much Will You Get?

The 2025 increase means eligible individuals and families will receive higher payments:

  • Single workers can get up to $1,633 if their net income is below $26,855.
  • Families can receive up to $2,813 if their net income is under $30,639.
  • Disability supplement offers up to $843 for qualifying individuals.

These amounts decrease as income rises. Singles earning over $37,474 and families earning above $49,391 will not receive CWB payments. Residents in Alberta, Quebec, and Nunavut may have slightly different amounts due to provincial agreements.

Who Can Qualify?

To be eligible for the basic CWB amount, you must:

  • Be a Canadian resident for the entire year.
  • Be 19 years or older by December 31, 2024, or live with a spouse, partner, or child.
  • Have a working income of at least $3,000 in 2024.

For the disability supplement, you must:

  • Be approved for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) and have a valid Form T2201 on file.
  • Have an adjusted net income below $37,740 for singles or $49,389 for families.

Who Is Not Eligible?

You will not qualify if:

  • You are a full-time student for more than 13 weeks unless you support a dependent.
  • You were incarcerated for over 90 days in 2024.
  • You are a diplomat or a family member of a diplomat who does not pay Canadian taxes.

How to Apply

Applying for the CWB is simple:

  • File your 2024 tax return and claim the benefit using Schedule 6 (Canada Workers Benefit).
  • If eligible for the disability supplement, include it in your tax return.
  • No extra application is needed for advanced payments. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will automatically process payments based on your tax return.

When Will Payments Arrive?

Payments will be sent on:

  • July 12, 2025
  • October 11, 2025
  • January 10, 2026

If a payment date falls on a weekend or holiday, the deposit will arrive the previous business day.

What If You Don’t Get Your Payment?

  • Check if you meet the eligibility requirements.
  • Wait at least 10 business days after the payment date before contacting CRA.

The CWB increase will help thousands of Canadian workers manage their expenses. If you qualify, ensure your taxes are filed correctly and on time to receive your payments without delay.
