Starting May 21, 2024, Canada is set to extend invitations for its Super Visa program, allowing sponsorship for parents. Over approximately two weeks, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) plans to invite around 35,700 potential sponsors from the pool of interest to sponsor forms submitted in 2020. Those who submitted an interest form in 2020 are advised to monitor their email for updates.
For individuals who did not submit an interest form in 2020, their parents and grandparents can still visit Canada for an extended period by applying for a super visa. This visa permits stays of up to five years at a time, with the option to extend while in Canada.
Eligibility for a super visa requires the applicant to be the child or grandchild of a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or registered Indian. The visa allows multiple entries over ten years, each permitting a stay of up to five years. Notably, only biological or adopted children can invite their parents or grandparents, along with their spouses or common-law partners.
For hosts who are registered Indians, proof of citizenship or permanent residence can be provided with a Certificate of Indian Status. Additionally, hosts must demonstrate financial capability to support the applicant during their stay, meeting or exceeding the minimum necessary income based on Statistics Canada's low-income cut-offs.
Furthermore, parents or grandparents must have valid health insurance from a Canadian or certified non-Canadian insurance company. This initiative aims to facilitate family reunions while ensuring the well-being of visitors and hosts alike.
