Ontario's latest Express Entry draw has issued 1,287 invitations for permanent residency.
Ontario has recently announced a new Express Entry draw, issuing 1,287 invitations for provincial nomination under its Skilled Trades Stream. This marks a notable expansion from previous rounds, with changes to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score range. The draw is aimed at attracting skilled tradespeople with experience in specific occupations.
In this latest draw, all Express Entry profiles with a CRS score between 400 and 435 and experience in one of 46 designated skilled trades were invited. This includes a broad array of occupations, from contractors and supervisors in various trades to machinists, electricians, and plumbers. The updated score range reflects a more inclusive approach compared to previous draws, where the lower limit was set at 408. Now, candidates with scores as low as 400 are considered, although the upper limit remains unchanged.
The Skilled Trades Stream is designed to attract individuals with practical experience in trades to Ontario. This particular draw considered profiles created between August 22, 2023, and August 22, 2024. Candidates receiving invitations have 45 days to accept and submit their applications for provincial nomination. A successful nomination can significantly boost their CRS score by 600 points, improving their chances in future draws.
The current draw continues the trend of targeting skilled trades professionals, a priority for Ontario given the province's ongoing need for skilled labour. The increase in the number of invitations this year compared to 2023 reflects a proactive approach to filling critical trade roles. In 2024 alone, the OINP has invited 7,699 profiles across four draws, surpassing the total of 7,512 invitations issued in 2023.
The draw covered a wide range of skilled trades. Eligible occupations include:
This comprehensive list highlights Ontario's focus on bringing in skilled workers across various sectors crucial to the province’s economic and infrastructural development.
To qualify for the Skilled Trades Stream, candidates must have a valid Express Entry profile and at least one year of full-time work experience in Ontario, or equivalent part-time work. The experience must be within the past two years and fall under specific major or minor occupational groups.
