Morden Community Driven Immigration Initiative (MCDII)

The Morden Community Driven Immigration Initiative (MCDII) actively helps individuals and their families make Morden, Manitoba, their new home through the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). Selected candidates and their dependent family members can gain permanent residency in Canada. Morden is a growing community located just 112 km southwest of Winnipeg, with a welcoming population of approximately 9,000.

Minimum Requirements

MCDII works closely with local employers to identify specific occupations where there is a need for skilled workers. This program aims to bring in qualified individuals who can contribute to Morden’s economy and enrich the community. To apply, candidates must be in one of the following high-demand occupations:

  • Welders
  • Carpenters
  • Cooks
  • Plumbers/Pipefitters

Eligibility Criteria for Welders

Candidates applying as welders must meet these requirements:

  • Age: 21 to 45 years
  • No family, friends, or employment history in other parts of Canada
  • A post-secondary diploma, certificate, or degree from a program of at least one year
  • A General IELTS score of at least five in each band
  • Intent and ability to settle in Morden and establish themselves financially
  • Required settlement funds ($10,000 for the principal applicant, plus $2,000 for each dependent), excluding exploratory visit expenses
  • At least two years of recent work experience in welding or commercial/residential carpentry

Eligibility Criteria for Other Occupations

For other occupations, candidates should meet the following:

  • Age: 21 to 45 years
  • No connections to other parts of Canada
  • A post-secondary diploma, certificate, or degree from a program of at least one year
  • Settlement funds of $10,000 for the principal applicant and $2,000 per dependent, not including exploratory visit costs
  • An active Express Entry profile with a CLB language score of 7 and an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)
  • Two years of recent work experience in their target occupation over the past five years

The program favors applicants who have previously lived in a rural area, as they are more likely to adapt to Morden’s lifestyle and climate. Those selected are required to make an exploratory visit to Morden to complete an interview with MPNP officers and explore local employment opportunities.

Candidates must ensure they meet all eligibility criteria when visiting, and any connections outside of Morden that develop after the application could impact the application outcome.

Application Process

Here’s a step-by-step outline of how to apply through MCDII:

Step 1: Confirm your eligibility by reviewing the above requirements.

Step 7: Apply online for provincial nomination through MPNP, usually after returning home.

Step 8: Upon meeting all MPNP requirements, you’ll receive a Nomination Letter.

Step 9: With this letter, you can apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) as a provincial nominee.

Step 11: Once granted permanent residency, you and your family can start your journey to Morden.
