Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program's Priority Skills NL: In-Demand Work Pathway

The Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLNP) offers various pathways for skilled individuals looking to settle and work in the province. Among these pathways is the Priority Skills NL stream, which includes the In-demand Work Path. This article aims to provide a detailed understanding of the In-demand Work Path, its eligibility criteria, application process, and the scoring grid used for evaluation.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the In-demand Work Path, candidates must meet specific eligibility requirements. These include having at least one year of work experience in one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s priority occupations within the past ten years. Additionally, candidates must be at least 21 years old, demonstrate English language proficiency at CLB 5 or higher, and meet the settlement funds requirement set by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Application Procedure

The application process for the In-demand Work Path operates on an Expression of Interest (EOI) system. Candidates meeting the minimum requirements can submit a profile through Newfoundland and Labrador’s online immigration portal. Each profile is assigned a score using the province’s Questionnaire Scoring Grid, with a minimum score of 60 points required for consideration.

Upon submitting their profile, candidates may be asked to provide three supporting documents related to their work experience and education. These documents are accessible to both the province and potential Newfoundland and Labrador employers. The highest-ranking candidates, showing interest from local employers, are invited to apply for nomination.

If invited, candidates must submit a complete application to the province. If approved, they will receive a provincial nomination for permanent residence from Newfoundland and Labrador. Depending on the applicant’s eligibility for the Express Entry Skilled Worker category, their nomination certificate may be issued to their Express Entry profile, allowing for faster processing.

In-demand Work Questionnaire Scoring Grid

The scoring grid used to evaluate candidates for the In-demand Work Path considers various factors, each with a maximum point allocation. These factors include English language proficiency, French language proficiency (if applicable), age, education, work experience, and specific in-demand work experience within Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador.
