New job list revealed for permanent residence programs

Timmins, Ontario has shared key industries and jobs for two new immigration paths.

The city of Timmins in Northern Ontario has released a list of important jobs for two new immigration programs. These programs are the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP) and the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot (FCIP). Timmins is one of the few cities taking part in both.

These programs help skilled workers move to smaller communities in Canada. To qualify, workers need a job offer from an approved local employer. The city has now shared which jobs and sectors will be given priority.

Timmins has picked five main work areas. These include:

  • Health
  • Education, law, social and community services
  • Trades and transport
  • Natural resources and farming
  • Business, finance and office work

Two job types are not allowed under trades and transport: taxi dispatchers and taxi drivers.

Each pathway has its own list of jobs. Many jobs appear on both lists.

Some jobs listed for the RCIP include:

  • Nurses
  • Early childhood educators
  • Truck drivers
  • Mechanics
  • Bookkeepers
  • Construction workers
  • Social service workers
  • Welders
  • Lab technologists
  • Home support workers
  • Industrial electricians
  • Heavy equipment operators
  • Financial advisors
  • Caregivers
  • Engineers
  • Teachers

For the FCIP, jobs include many of the same roles, plus a few others like:

  • Administrative assistants
  • Legal office assistants
  • Livestock workers and farm machine operators

To join these programs, employers must work in one of the priority sectors and offer jobs in one of the listed occupations. Only these employers will be allowed to take part in the programs.

The city said it will soon publish a full list of these approved employers. These programs are focused on employers, which means workers can’t apply unless they have a valid job offer from a participating business.

The two immigration pilots were launched on January 30, 2025. They were created to help smaller communities fill job gaps with skilled workers from other countries.

The RCIP is for workers who want to move to rural areas and help fill local labor shortages. The FCIP is for people who speak French and want to work in smaller French-speaking communities.

Workers need to meet several conditions, including job experience, language skills, education, and enough money to settle. Most importantly, they must get a real job offer from an approved employer.

Local organizations will help match employers and workers, and they will also recommend workers for permanent residence.

Many other cities that joined these programs are still working on their lists. Timmins is one of the first to share complete details, giving it a head start in attracting new workers.
